She & Him…
…is what I have been listening to this week. Their album, Volume One, is well worth checking out. An album I found myself loving pretty much instantly! :)

Zooey Deschanel’s voice was rather unexpected (in a good way) for me. Before I heard it I had kind of imagined what she might sound like from what she looks like. Stupid? Probably. But I’m sure you know what I mean. Anyway when I actually heard it I was astounded! I have a bit of a weakness for inimitable (imo) voices like that. And of course I can’t resist a little bit of a country-ish sound, it’s almost like a guilty pleasure, or at least it would be if it wasn’t so blatantly fantastic!

From what I hear of it I’m pretty much in love with M. Ward’s voice too. One complaint I would have about this album is that there isn’t more of it! Probably best shown on their lovely cover of You Really Got a Hold On Me, a song I loved anyway, and am finding it impossible not to adore this version.
Other highlights for me include This Is Not a Test, Change is Hard and You Got Me. I love the sound of the entire album in general, indeed most of the time it sounds like it’s something that was made about fifty years ago, a fact I have to say I love. And Zooey’s voice just fits it perfectly! Go check them out.
As usual they have a .com and a myspace so go have a look see. And you might as well watch the Why Do You Let Me Stay Here? video.
Enjoy! :)
p.s. from what I’ve been reading I need to check out M. Ward’s own stuff too because he’s apparently amazing.
